Thanksgiving and 12 Days of Christmas Catch Up!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was fabulous. My brother and niece were in town from Michigan, and we had a great time. My aunt hosted Thanksigiving dinner for 26, and it was perfect! I also had tons of fun going out on Thanksgiving Eve, having a crafty/chinese food/drinks night with cousins, and heading into Boston to see the Christmas sights. Basically, it was about 5 days of excess and indulgence. I think I need to fast for about a week... but it is worth it sometimes! I can’t wait to show you pics!

Right now though, I want to catch up on the 12 Days of Christmas:

Day 5: Favorite Holiday Movie/TV Show Special

This is a tough one for me! I LOVE CHRISTMAS movies. This year I am enacting a Christmas movie night with Boyfriend where we will sit down every Tuesday night to watch a Christmas movie. It is the only way I can assure myself I’ll see them all. Also we will drink hot chocolate and eat Trader Joe’s Candy Cane JoJo’s (... they’re to die for if you’ve never tried them)
And if I had to narrow down my favorite movies they would be:

1. Love Actually... the scene where the guy holds up the signs gets me every time!

2. Christmas Vacation

3. The classics like Rudolph and Charlie Brown!

Day 6: Gift Ideas

Dear Santa,

Can I please have....

A white Fossil watch

A new Ipod Nano

Ski Socks

and Peace on Earth.

Thanks. I’ve been really good. Love, Stace

Day 7: Holiday Craft/DIY Ideas

I read all your craft ideas, and you have lots! I can't think of anything that hasn't been covered! Also, I am moving across town at the end of the month so I am thinking more about packing and decluttering than decorating. Sad, but true!

Day 8: Least favorite thing about the Holidays

I only have one.... STILL FINDING PINE NEEDLES AROUND MY HOUSE IN JUNE!!

Phew I caught up! See ya all again tomorrow if you’ve read this all!

Christmas Shopping?!?

I’m playing along with Aly and Molly’s 12 Days of Christmas. You should too!

MY TOP 5 SHOPPING TIPS

1. If you see something you want.... DO NOT WAIT. I make this epic mistake every. single. year. I keep telling myself I won’t but it doesn’t work out at all. Here’s how it goes... I see something that I think someone will love as a gift. Then, I’lI think to myself, “Wait, Stace, you might find something better!” I’ll leave the item behind. I'll go to other stores and look all around and NOT find something better. I’ll go back to the store to buy item A and it will be gone. Happens EVERY SINGLE time. Don’t follow in my footsteps.

2. Avoid Black Friday. Atleast... that is my advice. Boyfriend and I bought a computer on Black Friday a few years ago. We woke up at 5:00 am headed to Best Buy and waited and waited and waited. Ang got a really good deal on a computer.... but it made us tired and cranky. We probably could have gotten just a good deal oline shopping from home in our PJ’s. Speaking of PJ's.... I want these:

3. When you think you’re about to go crazy... get a Starbucks gingerbread latte. They work wonders.

4. Look for deals and know what you’re looking for.

5. Skip the mall and just RELAX! Enjoy the music and the decorations and Santa Claus. Afterall, it’s not all about the gifts! Look around and appreciate this warm and fuzzy time of year. You know it will go too fast!

Christmas Traditions!

Since I love love love Christmas, I have decided to play along with Aly and Molly's Twelve Days of Christmas Blog Challenge!

The first one is about favorite... CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS. I, and my family, are pretty big on traditions. My cousins and I are hardcore fanatics of keeping tradition alive even if are ever expanding family has to find a place to fit 27 people at Thanksgiving dinner. We love being able to spend holidays together and since we’re a little crazy, like to have a few wacky traditions to go along with it.

Some are our traditions are small. The gals in my family take a trip to Maine to visit the outlet stores. I have my sister/bro in law, niece, and nephew over to make cookies every year. My sister and I... even if we’re in our 20’s and 30’s each get one present on Christmas Eve.... and it’s always pajamas! I love these.

But that’s where the traditional traditions end in my family and from there on out... we’re a little bit wacky.

Our wackiest tradition... although it has only been a tradition for about 5 years ago developed when my cousins and I decided that when we have Christmas dinner at my parent’s house on Christmas night... we are tired! The stress of the holidays catches up to us and we just want to relax and enjoy eachother’s company. We decided that we DIDN’T need to impress each other and we didn’t WANT to dress up... we wanted to be comfortable. So, we did what any normal group of people of cousins in their 20’s and 30’s would do... we decided to wear pajamas! By the next Christmas, the uncles/aunts/and parents agreed and started to wear their pajamas too! The Christmas night pajama party was born, and it is SO nice. I love it.

2007

We didn’t stop there though... although I can’t remember how it came about, the very next year after we started wearing pajamas, we decided it would be funny if everyone wore a crazy hat. I guess you can’t say we don’t have spirit! For whatever reason, everyone thought this was a great idea. Thus, the crazy hat pajama party Christmas day was born!

2008

2009Chr
This year we are ramping it up a notch and making it a MAKE YOUR OWN crazy hat pajama party... I can’t wait to share the pictures!

Weekend Recap!

This past weekend I went to the Boston Ski and Snowboard show. There was LOTS of good deals. I bought a new white helmet for about 60% off. Not the most exciting purchase, I know, but I’ve been looking for a white helmet for a while now and finally found one. There was tons of fun stuff to see like a trampoline show and a slackline area set up. there was lots of schwag. I love me some swchag.

We took advantage of the deals there and booked a little getaway for Martin Luther King weekend in January at the resort Jay Peak. I’ve never been, but it is most people’s favorite ski resort in New England. I can’t wait to ski all day then drink and get cozy by the fire at night. It will be bliss.

We also met Hannah Kearney! You might remember her from the Vancouver Olympics because she won GOLD in ski moguls. She was very nice and let me hold the gold medal! The medal was very unexpectedly heavy. Surprisingly, or maybe not so much considering my obsessions with the Olympics/skiing, I was a little starstruck!

(please excuse my ugliness in this picture, I had a nasty cold last week which is why I am red/icky in this pic, Hannah and Boyfriend look good though!)

After we left the show we went out for some Mexican. Mmmm, sometimes enchiladas and a margarita just hit the spot. It was VERY good and a fun night!

Scattered Sunday Thoughts!

*Did you have a nice sunny weekend like we did here in New England?? I had a great weekend! I met someone who made me a little starstruck! Can you guess who??? I'll tell you all about it tomorrow with some pics! Also, I babysat my nephew and niece overnight. It was nice to spend some time with them! Tomorrow = a full recap!

*Esty news: Become a fan of Dixie Bell Designs on Facebook, Twitter, or Blogger until December 1st and get 30% off! Sound good??? I think so!

*Exciting and a little bit scary news... Boyfriend and I might be moving to a new apartment. We LOVE where we live now, and have more space than we need, but things are changing a bit at this apartment and we think it will be good to find a new place. It is kinda moving REAL fast but we looked at an apartment today, and liked it. It is smaller than what we have now but has an AMAZING view of the water and they accept doggies! It is an apartment in an older house, but it kind of funky old and not ugly old fashioned old. Does that make sense?? Overall though, change stresses me out...... ay ay ay!

*Nautical by Nature is hosting a giveaway... you should check it out here.
*I'm watching Meet the Parents right now. Love this movie!

Thank Shuttferly, Thank You!

Have you hear this goods news?? Shutterfly is giving away 50 holiday cards to any blogger! All you have to do is go here. I thought I loved shutterfly before, but now I REALLY do! One more Christmas detail I don’t have to pay for- WAHOO!

Now comes the extremely tough decision- what card to choose?!? There are so many choices. I have gotten my Christmas cards there for the last two year and they came out great!

I like this one:

Cool Tree

And this one Jolly Snow Man

And also this one Merry Whimsy!

Choice, choices! I’ll post the one I finally choose!

Another thing I just learned that Shutterfly has is canvas prints. I think this would make a perfect addition to boyfriend’s Christmas gift. What do you think?? Shh, don’t tell him! I think he’ll love it and it is great way to preserve memories!

Ooooh, I just love all things Christmas! :)

Halloween Weekend!

My Halloween weekend was *so* much fun! HOW WAS YOURS??

{SATURDAY}

On Saturday, boyfriend and I hosted our 3rd annual Halloween party. It went really well!
We had a great turnout of friends and some family and had an all around great time.

Some of the highlights were:

GREAT COSTUMES!

YUMMY SANGRIA!!

OLD FASHIONED PARTY GAMES (these pics make me laugh!)

LOTS OF GREAT FRIENDS!!

{SUNDAY}

On Sunday morning after we woke up from the party (or more like I slept from 4 am to 9 am, so would that be more like a nap??) we went out to breakfast. I just got eggs, toast, and home fries, but they have about 10 homemade bread choices at the restaurant we went to, so delish!

After that we went over to see my nephew's pee-wee football game. It was frigid out. Luckily though, I killed two birds with one stone because the opposing team had a bunch of my students from school on it, so it was fun to watch them play.

Later in the afternoon, we went to a two year old birthday party/more Halloween festivities at a friend's house. It was a lot of fun too. I wore my costume to make the kiddos laugh. They thought I was pretty funny. We had tons of food and then mostly the women took the kiddos out trick or treating and the men stayed behind to watch football/serve the trick or treaters. It was sooooo cold out. Hello, winter! We struggled through though and then warmed up with hot chocolate when we got back.

My little buddy who was celebrating the birthday didn't know what was going on. He got cake, candy, and presents all on the same day! It was super cute. Also, he had a great pumpkin charlie brown cake. How cool is that??

We stayed there until about 8:30 or so and when we got home I was EXHAUSTED from the busy weekend and the lack of sleep I got on Saturday night! Nine o'clock was bedtime, but it was so worth it!
