Ma and Pa

I've had a rough few weeks... but it's getting better.
Two weeks or so ago, my mom went in to the hospital for some scheduled hip surgery. Her surgery went well and she is now recovering at home... and doing well. The surgery went better than planned and she should be back to her old self (aka the energizer bunny) in no time.

During the exact hour that my mom was in having her surgery though, while my dad and I were in the waiting room of the hospital, my dad came down with what we thought to be the stomach flu. He looked grayish/pale, was sweating, and was in extreme pain. When we found out my Mom was out of surgery, we sent my Dad home to sleep and get better. My sister and I stayed at the hospital and waited for my Mom to wake up and what not. A few hours later we called my Dad to check on him, it is always worrisome when he doesn't eat because he is diabetic. He told us he was STILL in extreme pain that wouldn't go away so we decided he should go to the emergency room.

He ended up getting admitted to the hospital and then transferred to another hospital, which wasn't the one my Mom was at. My sister and I didn't know if we should tell my Mom or not because we didn't want her to worry while she was still drugged/sleeping/recovering. We ended up telling her though because we didn't know what to do. What are the chances that they both go into the hospital on the exact same day?? Me and my sister couldn't even believe it was happening. It was so ridiculous it was almost funny, but not really.

My Dad ended up being in the hospital for 10 days and having his gallbladder removed. My mom ended up being in the hospital/rehab for 10 days as well and they both ended up coming home on the same day this weekend. For me this means I have spent the last two weeks going from work to one hospital to another hospital and then repeating it all day after day. Now I feel like a nurse who is doing laundry, cooking, care, etc, etc, etc... they are both doing really well and should recover completely in a few weeks, and I am really relieved for that. I am glad my sister and I are available to help them and happy they have insurance. God knows how high there hospital bills were!

The whole situation reminded me that there are ebbs and flows in life. Good times and bad. It reminds me to live each day to the fullest... and appreciate the people you have in your life! I am so thankful for my extended family, friends, friends of my parents, etc for visiting, making food, and more. It is so great to have a strong support system. Good friends make life more enjoyable for sure. Other than that I am happy that they are getting better, that the weather finally feels like nice warm spring, and that I have 5 more days of work and then a week off!

Hope you are all enjoying life and that you have warm sunshiney weather wherever you are!
